SESSION 10

Listen to Joe Hawk's eighth tape.

The fourth step - "Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves." | Fourth Column

JOE HAWK | SALVATION ARMY | WEEK 8

Is it true that our troubles are of our own making?

  • Am I waiting for everything else to change so I can feel better?
  • What can I change?
    • I can change only how I react. Nobody has to get better for me to get better.
    • I must regain what I lost in the third column, based on a Higher Power that will resolve my problem.

Thank God I can change.
Thank you God that my problems are of my own making.
I don't have to wait for anyone else to change in order for me to feel better.

Turning back to the list that holds the key to my future, I must look for the solution from a different angle. To get free from the past, I must not be constrictive. Those that have harmed me, may have been spiritually sick - but - I need to pray to be compassionate, kindly, and tolerant when reviewing each person. I only need to look at my mistakes and disregard the other person's mistakes entirely.

List my part in all these matters by asking the following four questions in the 4th column:

  1. Where was I selfish?
I wanted what I wanted when I wanted it.
  2. Where was I dishonest?
    I didn't tell them how I felt.
  3. Where was I self-seeking?
I wanted them to be _____
  4. Where was I frightened?
    I Thought he/she would do _____

Write down the word fear where fear was involved. This will be of used later in the fear inventory.

Suggested Prayers

God, please let me see where I played a part.

God, let me see where I can get free. To live, I must be free of anger.
