SESSION 14

Listen to Joe Hawk's ninth tape.

Steps six and seven.

JOE HAWK | SALVATION ARMY | WEEK 9

My character defects are not something I can do anything about.

Step 6

"Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character."

The good news is that I don't have to make a list. I don't have to write anything down.
At this point - having finished my fifth step - I should have a fair understanding of what my defects of character are.

Now, I need to get myself out of the way!

  • I am not going to work on my defects.
  • I am not going to get rid of my defects.
  • I am not going to learn to live with my defects.
  • I am not going to change my defects.

I am going to become entirely ready to have God remove these defects of character.

Step 7

"Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings."

I am simply going to give them to God, along with this prayer

My Creator, I am now willing that You should have all of me, good and bad. I pray that You now remove from me every single defect of character which stands in the way of my usefulness to you and my fellows. Grant me strength, as I go out from here, to do Your bidding. Amen.

I'm going to give them all to God.

I'm going to let God pick and choose and decide what is good and what is bad.

I'm going to let God decide how God wishes to work God's miracle in me.

I'm going to ask God to remove those defects that God thinks stand in the way.

I'm not asking God to give me power to work on my defects.

I'm asking God to remove the defects that stand in the way.

And that is why I need to be entirely ready to have all of them removed. So to give God complete freedom to decide which ones need to be removed. Remember, I'm not asking to have them removed. Only the ones that block me from God and my fellows.
